Greenpoint Tribute Series
As I walk the streets of Greenpoint, I take note of those scenes that exude the spirit of a past era. This series began as portraits of house facades and has expanded to include landmarks like the water tower and Peter Pan Donuts. Often the facades are showing signs of aging. I paint them because I want to memorialize them. Many of the ones I painted have already disappeared from the neighborhood you may see if you walk the streets today. The address and dates are included as an homage to an artist and documentarian, Eugene Armbruster, who preserved “Brooklyn’s Eastern District” in a book cataloging the streets of Williamsburgh, Brooklyn, (when it was still spelled with an “h”) in 1928. Here are six from the series.
